AQUILINE NOSE
What does the AQUILINE nose look like?
The aquiline nose has a pointed, hooked, sharp, angular shape. It is one of the 9 nose shapes. The skin is rather thin, we can see the bone and cartilage of the tip of the nose by “transparency”. Some people find that this nose can sometimes give an air too strict. Other people on the contrary like it because it gives a determined, self-confident, go-getter character.
AQUILINE: Masculine noun – thin, curved. Aquiline comes from the Latin “ aquilinus,” which comes from “aquila,” meaning eagle.
What image does the aquiline nose convey?
A strict nose
Some people find that these noses can sometimes appear too strict. This is due to their straight and angular shape. The nose suggests something authoritarian.
A nose with character
Conversely, some people like this nose because it conveys a determined, self-confident, go-getter, idealistic, and creative personality. The aquiline nose is recognizable as a leader and explorer.
An eagle-beak nose
The straight, angular appearance, the clear break in the middle of the nose ridge and especially its hook shape (seen in profile) have led some to compare it to the beak of an eagle.
A nobleman’s nose or a witch’s nose?
What’s surprising about this nose is that its appearance is as reminiscent of noble characters as it is of witches.
For example, in the cartoon “Pirate Family,” Irvin Lerequin (the main character’s neighbor) has a typically aquiline nose and represents the nobleman, who is simultaneously classy, rich, and snobbish.
Conversely, all representations of witches , disparaged, dark women, with a frugal life, suspected of the worst plots… have a hooked nose.
The aquiline nose thus represents both the class and finesse of the nobility and the deceitfulness of the witches in the collective imagination. These two characters will have a hooked nose, thin for the nobleman and thick for the witch. The witch’s nose will nevertheless be adorned with an enormous wart to frighten onlookers who might become attached to this mysterious, strong and independent hermit.

Stars with aquiline noses
The most famous people with this nose are:
- Celine Dion (after her rhinoplasty)
- Vincent Cassel
- Camille Cottin
- Adrien Brody
Rhinoplasty of the aquiline nose
An aquiline nose can be a source of pride for some and a source of self-confidence for others. It can be difficult to embrace, especially when it’s large. Rhinoplasty can be performed to correct the shape of the nose.
Surgery involves softening the angles of the nose to make it softer, rounder, and, most importantly, less hooked. The surgeon may modify the bones and cartilage, or graft pieces of bone/cartilage to give the nose the desired shape.
It is also possible to make a temporary modification using hyaluronic acid injections. The injection lasts approximately 30 minutes and is not very painful. The nose modification lasts approximately 1 year.
Usually the discomfort is only physical but this type of nose does not cause respiratory problems.
The cost of rhinoplasty will depend on the extent of the operation and the reputation of the surgeon or clinic. It is very rarely reimbursed by social security or mutual insurance companies.
Rhinoplasty surgery leaves few scars.
Cosmetic nose surgery remains a surgical operation, so the decision must be carefully considered and a prior appointment with the surgeon will be necessary.
