THE GREEK NOSE
The Greek nose is characterized by a perfectly flat ridge. Only 3% of the population has a perfectly straight nose.
Unlike the hooked nose, there is no hump.
Unlike the snub nose, there is no hollow.
Apart from the perfectly flat bridge, the Greek nose is “normal”, the tip of the nose is nicely rounded or pointed but always fine. In addition, there is a nice, gentle hollow between the forehead and the base of the nose (unlike the straight nose). The nostrils are small and narrow.
The Greek nose gets its name from the perfectly shaped noses depicted on statues in ancient Greece. Friends stars Jennifer Aniston (who had a nose job) and Princess Kate Middleton have Greek noses.
Rhinoplasty to achieve a Greek nose
Plastic and cosmetic nose surgery can create a Greek nose when you have a hump or a hollow.
Hunchbacked nose
Closed Rhinoplasty
The surgeon will make an incision inside the nostrils to reach under the skin and plane the bump or even cut away the cartilage and bone that form the bump. This will often be done with an ultrasound device.
Open Rhinoplasty
If necessary, a small incision will also be made in the groove that separates the two nostrils in order to pull back the skin of the nose during the operation and have a better view of the structures of the nose. This will remove a larger bump but will leave a small, discreet scar under the nose.
Trumpet nose
The surgeon will make incisions inside the nostrils and under the nose to gain access to the nasal structure. In the example on the left, he will reshape the cartilage to lower the tip of the nose. He will also, and most importantly, perform a graft on the nasal ridge to fill the hollow. The graft can be cartilage taken from the nose, ear, or a rib. The graft can also be made of silicone.
Greek Nose Surgery Procedure
Greek nose surgery will be performed under general anesthesia and will require 1 to 2 nights in the hospital. Some surgeons operate on an outpatient basis for minor operations. The operation can be performed when growth is complete (around 17/18 years old) and the person has fully considered their decision. In the meantime, in cases of very serious insecurities and with the consent of the parents, hyaluronic acid injections can help you wait until the operation. The benefits of the injections disappear after about a year.
