FLAT CHIN
A flat or poorly defined chin
When the chin is not well defined and is set back, this often causes the upper teeth to protrude and overlap the lower lip when the mouth is closed.
This may be due to an underdeveloped chin bone or a mandible (lower jaw) that is too far back. This is called a receding chin .
This condition can also cause the lower lip to stretch downward. The muscles in the lower face remain tense when the mouth is closed.
How to shape your chin
This will depend on whether it is only a bone problem at the end of the chin (prosthesis, hyaluronic acid injections, etc.) or a very recessed lower jaw (osteosynthesis). The dentist, stomatologist, maxillofacial surgeon, etc. will observe the positioning of the bones and teeth and try to restore a more comfortable position for the patient. Indeed, a receding chin can be a sign of chewing problems or snoring (the airway is compressed when the tissues at the back of the tongue relax during sleep). Before the operation, it is possible to perform a simulation of jaw advancement . A receding chin is sometimes only the tip of the iceberg.
