Anatomy of the nose
Nasal bones
The two symmetrical bones are separated by the nasal septum. This is the only bony part of the nose.
Triangular cartilages
They impact the width of the nose and the hump on the nose.
Septum of the nose
The nasal septum is the partition between the nostrils. This cartilage structures the nose and plays an important role in crooked noses .
Wing cartilages
These are the cartilages that form the nostrils . They also play an important role in the shape of the tip of the nose.

Columella
Furrow of skin between the two nostrils.
Nasal wings
Cartilage and skin that make up the nostrils.

Pituitary gland
The pituitary gland is a gland that produces hormones, digestive juices, saliva, tears, and sweat.
Sinus
The sinuses are cavities in the bones designed to relieve pressure. The main ones in the face are the maxillary, ethmoid, frontal, and sphenoid sinuses.
Nasal bone
Also called the nasal bone, it is the solid base of the nose (the rest is cartilage).
Nasal cavity
Passage that allows the air to be heated and humidified.
Cartilages of the nose
The structure of the middle and tip of the nose are made of cartilage.
Eustachian tube opening
Canal that connects the middle ear to the back of the throat.

Anatomy of the respiratory tract
Air enters through the nose (nasal airway) or the mouth (oral airway). It is removed from the digestive tract by the pharynx , passes through the vocal cords into the larynx and is then taken by the trachea to the lungs .
The olfactory area is located at the top of the nasal cavity . Rhinoplasty therefore does not affect the sense of smell.


Facial muscles
The main muscles of the face are the corrugator supercilius, the pyramidalis muscle of the nose, the orbicularis oculi (which goes around the eye), the levator nasolabialis, the levator nasalis superioris, the transverse muscle of the nose, the canine muscle, the depressor septonasalis, the minor and major zygomaticus, the orbicularis oris muscle, the depressor of the lower lip muscle, the mentalis muscle and the depressor of the angle of the mouth muscle.
The surgeon or cosmetic doctor can freeze one of these muscles using Botox (botulinum toxin) in order to reduce a wrinkle.
