Genioplasty - Chin Surgery

Before/After videos of Genioplasty

Genioplasty (chin surgery) is performed by cosmetic and maxillofacial surgeons in clinics and hospitals. This operation aims to shorten or lengthen the chin to harmonize the face. There are a multitude of other operations: chin asymmetry, surgery following chin trauma, etc.

Genioplasty – surgery for a receding (receding) chin

This video shows the before/after change made thanks to a genioplasty on a backward chin also called receding chin, retrognathic chin, mandibular retrognathism. The advancement of the chin is done by osteosynthesis (bone cut then replaced using plates and screws), by bone graft (bone ground held by a metal grid while waiting for recalcification) or using a silicone prosthesis which is placed at the front of the chin.

The chin-wing method moves the chin forward and lowers the back of the lower jaw to redraw the face-neck boundary.

Genioplasty – surgery for a protruding chin

Chin retraction genioplasty is an operation that involves moving a chin that is too far forward. A chin that is too far forward can create tension on the skin and have an unsightly and dysmorphic appearance. The surgery, performed in a clinic or hospital under local or general anesthesia, involves shaving the chin bone or cutting the chin, removing part of the bone, and then repositioning the chin using plates and screws.

Genioplasty is usually performed through the mouth and leaves no visible scars. Genioplasty costs $4,000 to $20,000. A before-and-after digital simulation performed using a simulator prior to surgery costs $30 to $60.
