Receding chin surgery
When a receding chin is due to a lower jaw that is set back relative to the maxilla (upper jaw), the maxillofacial surgeon or oral surgeon will suggest surgery to move the receding chin forward.
This procedure aims to resolve the following problems:
- Difficulty chewing (in conjunction with orthodontic appliances)
- Sleep apnea (airway compression)
- Snoring (airway compression)
- Jaw creaking or pain
- Cosmetic discomfort
Stages of the operation
- Before/after simulation based on a photo
- The orthodontist will begin realigning the teeth
- First meeting with the maxillofacial surgeon
- Jaw surgery (hospital or clinic)
- The orthodontist will intervene again to properly align the teeth.
