TEETH IN FRONT AND CHIN BACK

Problems encountered
- The upper teeth , located on the upper jaw (maxilla), protrude forward and extend beyond the upper lip.
- The chin is not very defined and slopes backward. This is called a receding chin .
- There may be health problems: difficulty chewing, snoring, loss of self-confidence, etc.
Can the orthodontist solve the problem?
The orthodontist will take an X-ray to check the positioning of the bone structure. He will also analyze the function of the jaw by looking at how the upper and lower teeth fit together.
Sometimes tooth movement is not enough to resolve functional and aesthetic problems, so he will call on a fellow surgeon and work with him to meet the patient’s expectations. A photo simulation can be performed to get an idea of the aesthetic result of the operation.
Chin retraction surgery
If necessary, a surgeon specializing in facial structure will intervene to move the mandible (lower jaw) forward, the maxilla (upper jaw) back, or both (bi-maxillary surgery). The bones will be cut, replaced, and then fixed with small titanium plates and screws. The bone will then grow back over the osteosynthesis material and resolidify the jaw. This allows for the advancement or retraction of the chin .
Following the intervention, the dentist or orthodontist will often replace a dental appliance for a few months in order to obtain a beautiful, perfectly straight smile and perfect chewing.
