RHINOPLASTY - TRUMPET OR UPSET NOSE

Definition of trumpet nose

The snub nose, also called a trumpet nose or baby nose, is a nose that has the characteristic of having a concave crest (the opposite of a hump). It is one of the small noses. It is characterized by a small, fine point that rises . In general, the hook nose gives a cute and childish look to the person. It is the opposite of the aquiline or Bourbon nose .

Some people with “normal” noses have surgery to have an upturned nose, as many movie stars and celebrities do. Indeed, slightly upturned noses are fashionable.

Other people suffer from tension in their nostrils and upper lip. Some people simply find it unsightly and prefer to have surgery to get rid of the nose they call a ” pig nose . “

The trumpet nose also refers to the drawing (oil, ink, gouache) by Georges Rouault kept at the Centre Pompidou in Paris.

Features

The trumpet nose has 2 important characteristics:

  • A concave, hollow dorsum (nose ridge).
  • An angle greater than 120° between the columella and the upper lip. The average is 95° in men and 100° in women.

Maxillary (upper jaw) retraction surgery can cause a trumpet nose to be enlarged. Conversely, jaw advancement can reduce the angle between the upper lip and the columella and reduce an upturned nose.

Trumpet nose rhinoplasty

Trumpet nose surgery involves softening the concave part of the nose, lowering the tip of the nose or raising the columella (bottom of the nose, under the nostrils), in order to reduce the upturned appearance of the nose.

Conversely, for people who want a trumpet nose (and who have a straight nose or a humped nose), the nasal ridge (bone and cartilage) will be hollowed out to create a hollow. The surgeon will also lower the nasal root (hollow between the nose and the forehead). He may also graft cartilage onto the tip of the nose to create the upturned effect.

Sometimes rhinoplasty to refine the nose or remove a hump can create a slightly trumpet-shaped nose.

The price of a rhinoplasty will depend on the surgeon, the technique used, the clinic, whether or not piezosurgery is used… you should allow a budget of $5,000 to $25,000

The importance of maintaining a natural look

When a surgeon operates on a person to create a trumpet nose (or transform a trumpet nose into a “classic” nose), they will do everything they can to make the result appear natural. Indeed, a successful rhinoplasty is one that cannot be seen.

To maintain the most natural appearance possible, the surgeon’s experience is crucial. Equipment is also important. Indeed, the use of ultrasound (piezoelectric) machines allows for precision work that causes less damage to bones and soft tissue than conventional milling machines.

Fixing a failed rhinoplasty (secondary rhinoplasty)

Many people have complained of unnatural-looking noses after surgery. There are also people who find their noses too upturned. This is often the result of choosing “discount” surgeons who cut prices in foreign countries. In these countries, surgical and hygiene standards are not the same as in France. By wanting to work quickly, cheap surgeons can perform disappointing operations. It is sometimes possible to repair the damage done by this type of surgeon, but the operation is delicate and takes time. This corrective operation is therefore more expensive than a traditional rhinoplasty.

To do this, the surgeon performs a cartilage graft. He or she will take cartilage from the nose, the ear, or a rib. He or she will then sculpt it and suture it to the tip of the nose. The surgeon will aim to achieve a harmonious profile by adjusting the angle between the upper lip and the columella to 95/100°.

Communicate well with your surgeon to avoid a failed rhinoplasty

Sometimes people who have had surgery are disappointed with the results. There are several reasons for failure:

  1. The surgeon botched his operation
  2. The patient regrets his initial choice
  3. The surgeon and patient misunderstood the desired outcome

It’s important to have a thorough discussion with your cosmetic surgeon to ensure they fully understand your concerns and desires. Rhinoplasty is an expensive and crucial procedure because the nose plays a major role in facial beauty. Ideally, you should create a digital simulation from a photo and discuss it with your surgeon.

What face would you have with a snub nose?

  1. Upload your photo
  2. Receive your simulation
  3. Show the photo to your surgeon to ask if the operation is technically feasible and at what price.
